Context
Stowly is an app to keep storage units, garages and moves under control. You stick a QR label on each box, photograph the contents and the AI catalogues it. Then you find any item in seconds. It includes an iOS and Android app, a shop for sticker packs, plus a subscription covering the AI and cloud sync features.
The challenge
Combine a physical product, with printed and shipped stickers, with software. Protect the user's inventory with end-to-end encryption and sync without the server being able to read the data. Charge by subscription and by one-off sale, and pass the app store review with the legal side fully resolved.
The work
- 01App in Expo and React Native with on-device encryption.
- 02Backend in Next.js with Prisma and PostgreSQL. Stripe for buying packs without registration, RevenueCat for subscriptions, S3 for images, Redis, sticker PDFs in A5 or roll format, end-to-end tests with Playwright, deployment on Kubernetes.
Outcome
A complete product, physical and digital, ready to launch. The app catalogues every box with AI and finds any item in seconds, with the inventory encrypted end to end on the device so that not even the server can read it. QR labels are generated as print-ready PDFs in A5 or roll format, sold from the shop without registration. The AI and cloud features are billed by subscription through the app stores. All with end-to-end tests, deployed on Kubernetes and with the legal side closed.
